Ferguson-Florissant member awarded 2022 Missouri Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to the 2022 Missouri State Teacher of the Year Missouri NEA member James Young. Young teaches musical theater, vocal music, and guitar at Johnson-Wabash Sixth Grade Center in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. He is the first teacher from the north St. Louis school district to win the award.

Young has been a dedicated teacher for 14 years, most of which he has spent in the Ferguson Florissant School District. Before becoming a teacher, Young served in the United States Army. During his tour in South Korea, he sang in the prestigious U.S. Army Chorus, one of the nation's only low-voice choruses.

Young uses his collaborative partnerships in the Arts community to help bring high-quality arts education to his students and the entire school community.

Young will serve as Missouri’s representative in the National Teacher of the Year program. He will be honored during DESE’s Teacher of the Year recognition event in Jefferson City on Tues., Oct. 19, along with the other six finalists, semi-finalists, and Regional Teachers of the Year.
