Member in Crisis: Contact MNEA

Need help with a work-related situation?

Contact your UniServ director at the first hint of trouble. Many situations can be resolved informally in the early stages with an experienced advocate by your side.

Missouri NEA's field staff are the front-line defense team for MNEA union members. As full-time, trained professionals, UniServ directors are available year-round to assist individual members and local associations with a wide range of problems.

Your Right to Union Representation

There is no charge to members for UniServ assistance. It is another important benefit of your union membership.

In an investigatory interview or disciplinary meeting, you have the right to request union representation. If you request a union representative to be present, your administrator/supervisor has three options:

  1. Stop questioning until the representation arrives.
  2. Call off the interview.
  3. Suggest they will call off the interview if you voluntarily give up your right to union representation. (NEVER GIVE UP YOUR RIGHT TO REPRESENTATION.)

Call MNEA immediately if you are:

  • Hotlined.
  • Suspended.
  • Threatened.
  • Attacked.
  • Hurt.

 (800) 392-0236

Say:

"If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working condition, I respectfully request that my union representative be present. Without representation, I choose not to answer any questions at this time."

Invoke your right to representation.

You have a legal right to representation as provided by Article 1, Section 9 and 29 of the Missouri Constitution. Use this statement to invoke your right to union representation.

Help when you need it most

Take notes and DO NOT RESIGN or SIGN any documents without consulting a union representative.
