The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced the next stage in the 2026 Missouri Teacher of the Year competition. From a field of more than 30 Regional Teachers of the Year, the selection has been narrowed to 17 outstanding educators across the state. Among these distinguished teachers, six are proud members of the Missouri National Education Association, reflecting the strength and commitment of Missouri’s teaching professionals.
These semifinalists will now advance to a rigorous review process, where a panel of experts selected by DESE will evaluate their contributions to student learning, leadership in their schools, and impact within their communities. From this group, seven finalists will be chosen, and ultimately, one educator will be named the 2026 Missouri Teacher of the Year. The process highlights not only the excellence of individual teachers but also the importance of teaching as a profession that drives student achievement and strengthens public education.
Missouri’s Teacher of the Year competition celebrates the best and brightest educators who go above and beyond for their students. These semifinalists embody dedication, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in the classroom. By inspiring students to achieve their full potential, they exemplify the critical role teachers play in shaping the future. DESE’s recognition of their work underscores the value of investing in excellent teachers and the profound impact it has on schools and communities statewide.
