Frontier Middle School wins $1,000 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant

$1,000 grant will benefit the track and cross country teams.

Student-athletes at Frontier Middle School in the Wentzville School District will benefit from a $1,000, 2018 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant. Frontier Middle School is one of 79 public schools in 32 states receiving a total of $83,000.

The funds will be used to purchase conditioning tools for athletes on both the track and field and cross country teams. Tracy Cleveland, Track and Field Co-Coach, said, “This grant will allow access to training tools at the middle school.”

Currently, the middle school track and field and cross country teams travel to the high school for their training. On inclement weather days, they are stuck at the middle school with little resources to train.

Head Coach Rob Rowe, added, “This grant will go a long way in supporting this growing program.”

Frontier Middle School track and field students have worked tirelessly to become a dominate force, and at their most recent track meet the team set eight new school records.

The grant is named after California Casualty Chairman Emeritus Thomas R. Brown, who believes that teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship help develop high achievers in academics and life.

Since its creation in 2011, more than $660,000 has been awarded to some 600 athletic programs across the nation.

“All students should have the opportunity to compete,” said Lisa Almeida, Assistant Vice President. “California Casualty’s 67 year commitment to educators and schools also reaches to athletic fields.”

Public middle and high schools in Missouri with a need for their sports programs can apply now for the 2018/2019 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grants; applications are being accepted at www.calcasathleticsgrant.com. The deadline for consideration is January 15, 2019.
