What is American Education Week?

American Education Week—Nov. 12-16, 2018—presents all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. This year’s theme is "Reach. Educate. Inspire." It will be reflected in special observances each day of the week-long celebration:

Mon., Nov. 12: Kickoff Day
Tues., Nov. 13: Parents Day
Wed., Nov. 14: Education Support Professionals Day
Thurs., Nov 15: Educator for a Day
Fri., Nov. 16: Substitute Educators Day

Find ideas and materials, along with the history of AEW at www.nea.org/aew.

Substitute Educators Day

Friday of American Education Week

Substitute Educators Day was established in 2003 by the NEA Representative Assembly. Substitute teachers have a vital role in public schools. They have an ability to go into a classroom of strange faces and keep students on task in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Encourage increased respect for substitutes by celebrating Substitute Educators Day, the Friday of American Education Week.
