I Can Do It - Beginning Teacher Assistance

Beginning Teacher Assistance Program

Participant Comments:

"I came with reticence toward giving away my Saturday, but I'm leaving extremely happy that I came. Fantastic ideas, enthusiastic teaching. Bravo."

"Good stuff. Good discussions with other teachers. Nice to be able to collaborate with other peers in different settings."

"I thought the workshop was very helpful. I plan on using many of the strategies I learned in my class immediately."

All teachers with a Missouri Initial Professional Certificate (IPC) must participate in a beginning teacher assistance program before upgrading their certificate.  “I Can Do It” is designed for teachers in their first two years and any teacher who wants to improve their classroom management skills.  Missouri NEA partners with Maryville University to offer a meaningful program that meets the beginning teacher assistance program certification requirement.  Session is 6.5 hours long and includes lunch.

Activities address how to:

  • Have a smoothly flowing classroom
  • Use effective rules/routines/reinforcements
  • Deal with transition challenges
  • Use teaching standards to improve instructional practice
  • Build positive relationships
  • Deal with difficult behavior
  • Improve home and school communication
  • Renew your certification
  • Get information on reducing student loan debt
  • Know professional rights and responsibilities

Participants experience strategies and benefit from interacting with other teachers, receive their certificate of completion that day, and become a part of the Missouri NEA Beginning Teacher Network.

There is a non-refundable registration fee of $40 (MNEA members) or $65 (non-members). Space is limited.

Contact MNEA Teaching & Learning at (800) 392-0236 or email Becky Dodds (becky.dodds@mnea.org) for more information.
