Web sites that offer safe schools resources for educators, some of which provide links to more sites of interest.

  • NEA Safe Schools Resources, provide cutting edge research, news articles, Association policy, model state programs, and discussions about what other organizations are saying.

Grants to fund preventive and interventive educational programs to serve students who are violent, abusive or chronically disruptive.

A Wide variety of resources and information on management schools, student identification/selection, and evaluation.
  • The National Resource Center for Safe Schools, offers a wide variety of information and links to resources. Phone 800/547-6339 ext. 131.
  • National School Safety Center, provides a wide range of information and linkages to multiple resources.
  • Local Government/School Partnership Program, Department of Public Safety, Tim Taylor, P.O. Box 749, Jefferson City, MO 65102, phone: 573/751-4905. Grants to local government, police department and school district (consortia) for programs to reduce crime and violence.
  • Show Me PREP (Personal Responsibility Education Process), Cooperating School Districts, Linda McKay, director, 8225 Florissant Road, St. Louis, MO 63121, phone: 800/478-5684. Information and staff training in character education, lesson plans and activities.
  • National Association of School Resource Officers provides training dates and locations as well as other resources for school resource officers.
  • Safe Schools Coalition is a non-profit organization that works to reduce violence and promote health and safety in schools. Grant resources and workshops are listed.
  • The National Crime Prevention Council offers the free resource, "Stopping School Violence."
  • Various Initiatives Announced at November White House Conference on School Safety provides information on various programs, grants and publications that President Clinton has proposed.
  • "Keeping Schools Open as Community Learning Centers: Extending Learning in a Safe, Drug-Free Environment Before and After School" gives practical ideas and highlights successful programs for learning activities.
  • "1998 Annual Report on School Safety," the first annual report on school crime and safety from NCES.
  • According to the U.S. Department of Education's new addition to their online library, there are several ingredients to creating safe, orderly, drug-free schools. The booklet, Creating Safe and Drug-Free Schools: An Action Guide, provides information on preventing juvenile violence, truancy, alternative education programs for expelled students, mentoring in schools, effective data collection for safe public schools, and exemplary practices.

  • For more information about Title IV Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Community check the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's federal programs site.
  • "Early Warning, Timely Response: A Guide to Safe Schools," a document provided by the U.S. Department of Education which offers research-based practices designed to assist school communities.
