MNEA recognizes outstanding local efforts
in membership campaigns and local communications
At the Missouri NEA Summer Academy, held in July, the Association
recognized outstanding 2005-2006 membership efforts and newsletters.
Solid Rock Locals
Local associations that have been affiliated for at least
two years and achieved 80 percent or more of their membership
potential are honored as "Solid Rock Locals."
Those locals with 80 to 93 percent of their potential members
are Clayton NEA, DeSoto Transportation Association, Ferguson-Florissant
NEA, Festus Secretaries Association, Fort Zumwalt EA, Hancock
Place CTA, Hazelwood NEA, Mehlville NEA, Meramec Valley NEA,
Normandy NEA, Park Hill NEA, Parkway NEA, Pattonville NEA,
Ritenour NEA, Rockwood NEA, and Windsor NEA.
Early Enrollment Membership
Efforts
Special recognition was given to 14 locals for their successful
early enrollment membership campaigns. These locals signed
up at least 20 new members or 10 percent of their current
membership during the early enrollment period. Each of these
locals is receiving a check from MNEA for $100, which they
may use at their discretion.
Those locals early enrolling 20 or more members are CMSU/FMEW,
Columbia NEA, Grain Valley Transportation, North Kansas City
NEA, Park Hill NEA, Raytown NEA, Special Education Employees
Association and Springfield NEA.
Locals early enrolling 10 percent of current membership are
Dunklin EA, Francis Howell ESPA, Francis Howell MGC, Hazelwood
ASP, Seneca NEA and Waynesville MNEA.
MNEA-Retired Special Recognition
Another special membership award was given to MNEA’s
only statewide local, MNEA-Retired. As a result of its continuous
successful membership efforts, MNEA-Retired has passed another
thousand-member milestone and earned special recognition.
MNEA-Retired membership grew by 330 members this year with
a total of 3,136 annual retired, life retired and pre-retired
members.
UniServ Units with Greatest
Membership Increase
Two UniServ directors, Terri Coburn (unit 7) and Paul Telker
(unit 14), were honored for membership increases in their
units. Coburn, who is from the South St. Louis regional office,
was honored for her unit's increase of 174 new members (11.4
percent increase). Telker who is also from the South St. Louis
regional office, received recognition for his unit's increase
of 152 new members (8.4 percent increase).
Newsletter Awards
Taking Best of Show honors as the top newsletter in all categories
was Pattonville NEA’s The Scoop, edited by
Mindy Campbell. Pattonville NEA’s The Scoop also took
first-place honors in associations with more than 400 members.
Mehlville NEA’s Focus, edited by Ross Bullington,
won an award of merit.
In locals of 201-400 members, Columbia MNEA received an award
of merit for it’s newsletter, Columbia Communique',
edited by Michelle Shepard.
Grandview NEA's GNEA Bits and Pieces, edited by
Becky Davis, won the first-place honor among locals of 76
to 200 members. Festus MNEA’s The Tiger Roar, edited
by Kelly Scroggins, won an award of merit.
Forest Park Education Association’s FPEA Journal,
edited by Sharon Atlas, Adrienne Smith-Brookins and Nicole
Deloch, won first place in locals with 1-75 members. Lafayette
County C-1 EA won an award of merit for it’s newsletter,
The Buzz, edited by Keri Borchers and Ellen Hare.
