AmerenUE
and The National Theatre for Children use live theater
to teach kids about renewable energy and energy conservation
AmerenUE
and The National Theatre for Children will bring the
live theatrical show “Boomerang Jack and the Unseen
Green Machine” to 100 schools across Missouri
this fall. Any school in AmerenUE’s 62-county
Missouri electric service territory can request the
show, which is being offered to educators free of charge
on a first-come, first-served basis.
The
25-minute program delivers important messages of energy
conservation and renewable energy as it entertains children
in grades K-6. Educators are encouraged to call The
National Theatre for Children at (800) 858-3999, ext.
214, to request a performance.
“Boomerang
Jack and the Unseen Green Machine” is performed
by professional actors from The National Theatre for
Children. Based in Minneapolis, MN, The National Theatre
for Children specializes in writing and performing educational
programs for children nationwide using simple sets and
audience participation.
The
play features a cast of memorable characters, including
the evil Great Waster of Energy, ace reporter Aberdeen
Jean, the absentminded Professor Whatshisname and Boomerang
Jack himself. The play also comes with a full suite
of educational materials, including grade-appropriate
workbooks and teacher guides. These materials reinforce
the messages of “Boomerang Jack and the Unseen
Green Machine.”
AmerenUE
is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation.
Ameren, through its subsidiaries, serves 2.4 million
electric customers and nearly one million natural gas
customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and
Illinois. |
MNEA
offers No MOre Bullying DVD
The
new “No MOre Bullying” DVD is now available
for $49.95. It is a 1 3/4 hour program that includes
“stories” told by students, teachers, counselors,
a school board member and administrators from some of
Missouri NEA’s most successful whole-school campaigns.
This program explains “who needs to be in the
room” as your school or district begins the discussion
about a whole-school campaign to proactively deal with
bullying. It is an excellent resource to share with
your administrators and school board members. This DVD
is not intended to be used for an all-inclusive staff
development awareness session, but rather to start talking
to those people who will be able to help move a whole-school
campaign forward in your district. The DVD was produced
by Education Solutions Global Network, an arm of the
Missouri School Boards’ Association. If you are
interested in ordering this DVD, please contact Teaching & Learning Secretary at (800) 392-0236 or ann.jarrett@mnea.org.

| DigitalWish.com
creates fundraising initiative with online technology
‘gift registry’ for schools
Digital
Wish (www.digitalwish.com)
is a new fundraising initiative with a mission to modernize
American classrooms. Educators can use the school locator
to find their school, register, submit to share lesson
plans and automatically qualify to win 43 technology
grant opportunities. Your local school may already be
in the system. You’ll also find an extensive library
of technology-based lesson plans for teachers to explore,
loads of fundraising ideas, and a grants database for
additional funding opportunities.
Teachers
can register, tell their story, and make their technology
wishes public on www.digitalwish.com.
In October, Digital Wish will be adding an online donation
feature that will allow anyone to make a donation to
a classroom’s account or purchase items from a
teacher’s wish list (much like a wedding registry).
Anyone browsing the Internet can use the Digital Wish
Class Locator to find a local school and make a donation.
Registration
is free and open to anyone. Register today at www.digitalwish.com. |
