NEA Member Benefits helps members manage debt

NEA Member Benefits and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)* have teamed up to provide financial and debt management education to NEA members and their families.

Credit card debt, outstanding school loans, a home mortgage, car notes and day care expenses are all adding stress to members’ lives. I receive calls each week from members seeking solutions to their financial problems, which often are triggered by large medical bills or divorce. This new credit education and debt management counseling service will be an excellent resource for our members.

Members can access comprehensive financial and debt management services including:

  • one-on-one financial counseling to help you do more with what you have
  • financial education classes to help members understand the wise use of credit
  • bankruptcy counseling and debt management plans for those with severe debt
  • homeowner mortgage education to include how much house you can afford, and counseling if paying your mortgage is a problem

Certified financial counselors are available to help NEA members develop a customized solution to their financial problems. Services are provided free or at very affordable rates and can be accessed either in person or by phone. Many NFCC agencies also offer Web-based support. Visit www.debtadvice.org/nea or call toll-free (866) 479-NEA2.

*The National Foundation for Credit Counseling was founded in 1951 and is the nation’s largest and longest-serving national nonprofit credit counseling organization. Its mission is to promote financially responsible behavior and build capacity for its member agencies to deliver the highest quality financial education and counseling services. NFCC members annually help two million consumers through nearly 1,000 community-based offices nationwide.
