Legislature asked to do more to stop bullying

June 1, 2008 marked the date of a news conference to urge legislators to do more to make our schools safer for ALL students regardless of race, religion, income level or sexual orientation. Students should not be afraid to come to school.

Missouri NEA President, Chris Guinther, participated in the press conference hosted by a group of concerned citizens in the St.Louis area who are committedto making schools safer. Missouri NEA developed the "No MOre Bullying" program to help create bully-free schools in Missouri. To date, over 6000 educators have been trained through the program. If you would like to attend a No MOre Bullying Seminar, register your team at www.mnea.org.

The press conference was organized by State Representative Jeanette Oxford in cooperation with PROMO, a statewide organization advocating for legislative and community action to stop school bullying and violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgender students. The news conference was held at the Missouri NEA St. Louis Regional Office.
