Missouri NEA brings Cat in the Hat to Missouri
schools
for NEA’s Read Across America celebration
Celebrated every year on or near March 2nd since 1998, NEA's
Read Across America commemorates the birthday of Theodor Seuss
Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and calls attention to the critical role
of reading in the lives of adults and students alike.
Missouri NEA is sponsoring Cat Tracks 2006, a statewide Cat
in the Hat tour to promote the importance of reading to Missouri
students. MNEA President Greg Jung and Vice President Chris
Guinther (The Cat) will begin the annual tour at 8:30 a.m.
Feb. 27 in Bonne Terre, MO, and finish the afternoon of March
3 with an event at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield,
MO. During the week, the Cat will visit schools throughout
Missouri.
For a schedule of the Cat Tracks Tour and descriptions of
the various events, visit http://www.mnea.org/classkids/cat_sched.htm.
The 33,000-member MNEA represents teachers and other school
employees in school districts and on college campuses throughout
the state. It is the Missouri affiliate of the 2.7 million-member
National Education Association.
