Three MNEA members named top teachers
in state Teacher of the Year competition
Congratulations to Missouri NEA members Sue Haugen
(Jefferson City School District), Kristin L. Jackson
(Harrisonville School District) and Nancy Y. Smith
(Rockwood School District) for their honor as three of the
six finalists for 2007-2008 Missouri Teacher of the Year.
These and many more Missouri educators are the cornerstone
for building “great public schools for every child.”
Nominations for the award were submitted by 48 public school
districts across the state. A selection committee appointed
by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reviewed
the candidates’ written applications and chose the finalists.

Middle School, Jefferson City School District
- Kristin
L. Jackson, chemistry teacher, Harrisonville High
School, Harrisonville School District
- Nancy
Y. Smith, journalism teacher, Lafayette High School,
Rockwood School District
Eric Langhorst, eighth-grade social studies
teacher in the Liberty School District, is the 2007 Missouri
Teacher of the Year. Also on the lists of finalists is Ronna
L. Ford, family and consumer sciences teacher, Lebanon
Technology and Career Center, Lebanon School District and
Nicole
“Cole” Ratner, fifth-grade teacher, Twillman
Elementary School, Hazelwood School District.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education conducts
the Missouri Teacher of the Year program with financial support
provided by The Boeing Company, St. Louis.
