Springfield teachers to vote Nov. 10

Exclusive representation, or not? That is the question.

Springfield teachers will vote Nov. 10 to decide not who, but how their bargaining unit will be represented. After the Green County Circuit Court decided Sept. 10 that teachers could be treated differently than other employees in bargaining representation elections, the Springfield teachers must now hold two elections.

The first election will decide if they will have exclusive representation, multiple representation or no representation. The second election will only be held if teachers choose to have exclusive representation and will decide who will represent them during collective bargaining with the Springfield School District.

Springfield NEA is disputing the flawed election process where teachers will be forced to choose a process before choosing a representative. SNEA is recommending that one election be held where all organizations that have a showing of interest are placed on the ballot just as the Education Support Professionals have done in the past.

SNEA is campaigning for exclusive representation which means One Voice for Real Change. For more information, visit SNEA’s Blog at http://snea.blogspot.com/.
