Delegates adopt budget, elect leaders
Delegates to the spring Missouri NEA Representative Assembly
met for the Association’s biannual business meeting
April 24-25 at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach.
Delegates re-elected Greg Jung, MNEA president, and Chris
Guinther, MNEA vice president, to serve another three-year
term as the Association’s top leaders. Delegates also
re-elected Charles Smith, Center EA, to serve another term
as NEA director.
Among the accomplishments at the R.A. were the adoption of
the 2004-2005 MNEA budget, approval of the bylaws changes
printed in the April issue of Something Better and presentation
of various MNEA awards. Delegates also debated the resolutions
committee’s recommendations and elected representatives
to the MNEA Board of Directors and the Heritage House Board
of Trustees.

Awards
Receiving recognition for the Horace
Mann Friend of Education awards were: Barbara Harris, Parkway
NEA (teacher); Susan Atteberry Smith, Springfield News-Leader
(journalism); Lee’s Family Buffet and Restaurant in
Pattonville (organizational achievement); Dr. Paul Kinder,
superintendent of Blue Springs School District (individual
contribution to education); and Congressman Richard Gephardt
(legislative). Jan McClenahan, Ritenour NEA, received the
MNEA Soar with the Eagles leadership award, and Don Schulte,
Pattonville NEA, received the Lorna Bottger political action
award.
