Announcing the 2005 I Can Learn®-
NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence
Washington, DC - The NEA Foundation congratulates the 2005
recipients of The I CAN Learn®-NEA Foundation Awards for
Teaching Excellence. This award honors state affiliate members
of the National Education Association (NEA) nominated for
The NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. A gift from
I CAN Learn® Education Systems supports the awardees'
attendance at the foundation's annual December gala, where
the awards are presented. The awardees are listed below.
The I CAN Learn® Education System (www.icanlearn.com)
is designed to move America's students into a competitive
position with their counterparts from around the world using
the latest educational technology. Through interactive lessons
and real-world applications, I CAN Learn® students discover
the exciting world of mathematics and achieve academic success.
Originally nominated by their peers, the recipients of The
I CAN Learn®-NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence
are recognized for their outstanding professional expertise
and practice; advocacy for the profession; creativity and
innovation; attention to diversity; leadership in professional
development; and involvement of parents and community. All
current members of the NEA are eligible for nomination, including
teachers, education support professionals, and higher
education faculty and staff.
Five national finalists will be selected from these nominees
to receive The Horace Mann-NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching
Excellence and $10,000 each. In addition to funding these
awards, the Horace Mann Insurance Company funds the finalists'
travel to attend the gala.
The NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence national
recipient, announced at the event, is chosen from among the
five finalists and presented with an additional $25,000 and
a personalized commemorative gift.
Created by the NEA in 1969, The NEA Foundation inspires public
education employees to ensure that all students succeed. The
NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence was first given
in 2000 to honor public education and the dedicated members
of the NEA. Visit www.neafoundation.org for more information
