Legislative platform tops R.A. agenda Nov.
12
Missouri NEA Representative Assembly delegates will gather
for their fall business meeting Nov. 12 at the Clarion Sports
Complex (formerly Adam’s Mark) in Kansas City.
Leading the agenda is the adoption of the Association’s
legislative platform. Delegates will debate the platform,
presented by the legislative committee, to adopt MNEA’s
priorities for the 2005 session of the Missouri General Assembly.
Other highlights on the agenda include MNEA Political Action
Committee elections and the presentation of the Shirley Cromer
leadership award.
Delegates will also elect an NEA director to complete Jack
Williamson’s term, which ends Aug. 31, 2005. Williamson
has accepted a position as UniServ director with Kansas NEA.
Following are statements from two MNEA members who have announced
their candidacy for the position.
Don
Schulte, Pattonville NEA
Together, we can accomplish great things. That’s what
Missouri NEA and NEA have been about for over 30 years...accomplishing
great things for our students and our profession. Seventeen
years ago, I began teaching and soon after became very active
in our Association. Over those years, I’ve served on
virtually every level of Pattonville NEA, including president.
As a leader in Governance District 10, I served on the MNEA
Board for six years (until term limits caught up with me),
served as Governance District President, served on MNEA PAC
Executive Council, and served as Government Relations Team
chair. I’ve served you as chair of both the MNEA Legislative
Committee and Resolutions Committee. At the national level,
I’ve represented Missouri at 16 Representative Assemblies
and five years on the NEA Resolutions Committee. The NEA Resolutions
Committee Midwest Region delegates elected me as their representative
last year. I’ve chaired two national resolutions subcommittees.
I ask for your vote so I can use my experience to serve you
on the NEA Board.
Experience counts. I have the experience to “hit the
ground running” as your NEA Director! Please vote for
me, Don Schulte, for NEA Board of Directors.
John
Michaud, Fort Zumwalt
I am running for NEA Director for Missouri because I believe
that I can bring an insightful approach to the Board of Directors.
I am empathetic towards the causes of others and can speak
passionately on their behalf. I believe a leader should serve
others by consensus. I strongly value the opinion of individual
teachers and locals across the state. I believe these qualities
will make me a good choice for NEA Director for Missouri.
Furthermore, I am a hard working individual, who will not
be afraid to speak out on issues. I am a progressive thinker,
who looks toward the future while building on the past. I
will look for creative solutions to new problems that arise.
I will build on the foundation laid by others, while respecting
the groundwork others have laid down. Hard working, progressive,
creative, and respectful are qualities that I will bring to
the NEA Board of Directors.
I am asking for your endorsement and support in my bid for
NEA Director. Please vote for John Michaud, a positive, passionate,
and progressive individual. I am ready to serve this organization
based on my experience, drive, progressive thinking and passion
for the NEA.
