Missouri NEA Benefits for Retired Members

As an MNEA/NEA Retired member, you are eligible to participate in some great, cost-saving benefit programs such as:

Liability Protection: Retired members are covered by $2 million in liability protection when they work as an occasional substitute in the classroom.

Attorney Referral Program: Retired members continue to receive two free 30-minute consultation sessions with any participating attorney and a 30 percent reduction of the participating attorney’s normal fee for legal work in the areas of wills and estates, real estate, domestic relations, consumer protection and traffic violations.

Automobile and Homeowners Insurance: Members have access to preferential rates, broad coverage, convenient payments and outstanding service.

Guaranteed-Issue Life Insurance for Retired Members Over Age 50: No medical exam, no health questions and no long waiting periods are required. Coverage up to $10,000 is available at age 50 with a low premium of $150 a year.

Life Insurance: NEA has low rates on life insurance to help you protect your assets, pay estate taxes, or pay other unexpected bills that might accumulate.

Long Term Care Insurance: Protect your retirement savings by taking advantage of this insurance coverage for home health care, assisted living or nursing home expenses. NEA’s plan is tax-qualified and includes reduced rates and special features just for members and their families.

Medicare Supplement Program: This program provides coverage for hospital and medical expenses not covered by Medicare. The program offers members and their spouses age 65 and older Medicare options A-J at lower prices than most popular plans. Plans C-J give extra benefits on dental, vision, chiropractic, hearing care and prescription drugs at no additional cost. Need help finding a Medicare plan that is right for you, visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Web site

Dental Insurance Group Plan: Great rates are available for NEA retired members and their families. Choose an HMO plan or an indemnity plan that gives you the freedom to go to any dentist. For a list of participating HMO dentists, go to www.densource.com and click on the link under “Provider Listing” for Plans E & H. Scroll down to the “MNEA Enrollment Packet” link for rates, coverage and an enrollment application”. If you have questions or concerns, please call 800-369-3485 or Missouri NEA at 800-392-0236.

Financial Planning: The most common mistake made by retired investors is being too conservative. How should you invest? Which investments should you spend first? MNEA’s financial planning service will provide answers, as well as asset allocation, rebalancing, and other risk-management strategies.

Reverse Mortgages: NEA offers reverse mortgages, a special type of home loan that allows homeowners to convert some or all of their home equity into cash or monthly income while retaining home ownership. Members must be at least 62 years of age, occupy the home as their principal residence, have a small or no mortgage balance, and participate in a free counseling session to determine if a reverse mortgage is appropriate for them.

Communications Network: Stay up to date on retirement and educational issues by accessing MNEA’s Web site at www.mnea.org, and clicking “At the Capitol.” MNEA also has a legislative hotline if you are not an Internet user.

Use the NEA Member Benefits Web site to subscribe to Smart Living News, a monthly, online magazine with articles on investing, insurance, savings, borrowing and taxes. Plus, find out more ways NEA Member Benefits can help you save money by going directly to www.neamb.com.

Credit Card: Retirees may choose from three, no-fee credit cards, each loaded with member-only features.

World Points Travel Rewards: Members who have an NEA credit card can earn travel points toward free air travel, hotel accommodations, car rental, merchandise and cash. Unlike most other programs, NEA’s travel reward points can be redeemed for any airline, rental car or hotel, and there are no limits on seating or blackout dates on airlines.

Travel: Travel abroad and cruise at special MNEA discounted rates. Choose from group tours or cruises, or plan your own customized vacation.

Certificate of Deposit or Money Market Account: Make sure you are receiving the highest yields possible on your fixed investments by comparing NEA’s rates.
