Missouri NEA State Committees
2008-2009

Missouri NEA has nine standing committees, five advisory committees and several other statewide committees--each with specific functions to help develop and/or carry out Missouri NEA's programs. Except otherwise noted, committee members, committee chairs and board liaisons are appointed by the MNEA President with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors. Most MNEA committees meet three or four times during the school year.

The Program, Audit and Budget Committee consists of four elected members--two by the Board of Directors and two by the Representative Assembly--plus the vice president who chairs the committee. This committee recommends the annual program budget for review by the Board of Directors and adoption by the Representative Assembly in April.

The Bylaws and Rules Committee introduces, interprets, presents and recommends amendments to the Bylaws and Standing Rules of the Association at the April session of the Representative Assembly. The Bylaws Committee may also interpret the Bylaws as needed.

The Credentials Committee is responsible for the verification and registration of the delegates to the Representative Assembly, the implementation of all voting procedures of the RA and the certification of election results of the RA.

The Human and Civil Rights Committee is responsible for surveying, researching and sharing information that will improve and protect the rights of school populations. The committee works to develop action-oriented Human Relations Committees in local affiliates.

The Legislative Committee researches, outlines and presents a legislative program to the November session of the Representative Assembly. The committee outlines a plan of action to implement the program with member involvement.

The Member Benefits Committee reviews and recommends for approval by the Board of Directors new member benefits products reviews existing products, and has a grievance procedure for the purpose of processing any member's complaint relative to products or services.

The Membership Advisory Committee explores and recommends effective membership strategies for all categories of membership and ways to assist in building capacity for MNEA and its local affiliates.

The NEA Convention Committee is responsible for compiling the delegate notebook and planning activities for Missouri NEA's delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly each summer. Members to this committee for the following year are elected by the convention delegates at the last caucus session.

The Political Action Committee reviews recommendations of local screening committees for state and federal elections and votes on endorsement recommendations. (Endorsement of candidates for federal races must also be approved by NEA-PAC.) Members are elected from each governance district by that district's delegates to the Missouri NEA Representative Assembly. Members serve staggered three-year terms.
