Contacting
Legislators
Lobbying is one way MNEA works to advance the
cause of public education and the interests of education employees.
All decisions about public education—from the budget
for materials in your classroom to the standards for education
services provided to students with special needs—are
made or approved by elected or appointed officials.
Day-to-day lobbying in the Capitol is handled
by MNEA’s professional government relations staff. However,
gaining support for public education involves the work of
all Association members. Greater member involvement enhances
the effectiveness of our Association’s lobbying efforts
in Jefferson City.
One of the key elements in a successful grassroot’s
lobbying effort is the ability to deliver a simple message
in a timely manner. Occasionally, there is time to accomplish
this through a coordinated letter writing campaign. However,
once or twice in each session, there are times when only phone
calls or e-mails can reach legislators at the crucial moment.
When contact with legislators is needed, you
may get a request for action through the MNEA Legislative
Update or the NEA Update. Immediate requests for action will
be transmitted by the MNEA e-mail Activistl list. You will
be given a simple message and instructions on how to transmit
the message to your legislator.

Activist list.
