  • National Board for Professional Teaching Standards wants a few good teachers to serve as assessors. Approximately 3,000 teachers will spend time this summer serving as assessors who, after extensive training and qualifying, will play their part in determining the next cadre of NBCTs.

“Teachers tell me that serving as an assessor is the greatest professional experience they’ve ever had. I wish I had a dollar for every time a teacher told me that,” says Lin Schreiner, a social studies teacher at Lenape Middle School in Doylestown, Pa. Schreiner will be working as a scoring director this summer at a scoring site in Tulsa, Okla. “Assessors learn new techniques and strategies, all to better their teaching practice. When you analyze other practices, it forces you to analyze your own practice.”
