2009 Law Day Essay Contest
focuses on Lincoln's legacy of liberty

Youth ImageEssay prompt: 2009 marks the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. How does Lincoln's legacy of liberty affect our lives today? What can we learn from this American lawyer-president

An essay responding to this prompt could win one of your students a $300 U.S. Savings Bond. Turn your students into problem solvers and polish their writing skills with the 2009 Missouri NEA/Missouri Bar Law Day Essay Contest.

All entries should be sent to the judging coordinator listed in the flier for the contest. Essays must be postmarked by Feb. 6, 2009. Information packets, including publicity materials, will be mailed to school district superintendents and principals in October.

Students will compete in three categories, grades 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Entries should be no longer than 700 words and will be judged on general appearance, structure, content, creativity and originality.

The first-place winner in each category receives a $300 U.S. Savings Bond, second-place winners receive $200 Savings Bonds, and third-place winners receive $150 Savings Bonds. Statewide awards will be presented in May at a banquet in Jefferson City.
