The National Education Association secured an invitation for Pennsylvanian Chester Upland School District elementary teacher Sara Ferguson to sit in the First Lady’s box during the State of the Union speech Jan. 24, 2012. During President Obama's speech, he told the nation of Ferguson's selfless proposition, volunteering to work without pay when the school district ran out of money. "Teachers matter," the president stressed as he reminded the nation and Congress about the need to fund the public education system.
The Huffington Post asked Ferguson to be a guest blogger. She writes about that experiences in Pennsylvania, and recognizes that it could happen anywhere in the nation. Read Ferguson's blog >>
